The Campbell Fighting Camels and the Evansville Aces meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Ford Center. Campbell is 4-4 overall this year. Campbell went 2-2 over their first four games this year, losing to NC State and Southeastern LA. The Camels hit another 2-2 run in their next quartet with losses to Jacksonville and East Carolina alongside wins versus Kennesaw State and Stetson.
In the East Carolina matchup back on Friday, Campbell was down 41-26 by halftime. The Camels got better from there but still lost 79-69. Joshua Lusane posted 16 points, and Jay Pal doubled with 10 points and 10 boards.
Over on the Evansville side, they won their opener this year then fell to Saint Louis, SEMO, SMU, UCF and South Alabama in the next five. After a win over Robert Morris, the Aces lost to Fairfield, Southern Illinois and Northern Iowa.
In the Northern Iowa game on Saturday, Evansville took a 38-20 deficit into the second half. The Aces limped to a 72-55 loss from there after 35 second-half points. Kenny Strawbridge led the team on 17 points.
PICK: I’ll stay with Campbell. Not going near it, though; there’s not a whole lot to get excited about here. That said, the Camels still shot pretty well (43.3 percent) in their loss to East Carolina last Friday. Campbell is capable of some big performances against comparable teams: they’ve hit 85 or more in two of their last four games. Evansville should be firmly in the Camels’ wheelhouse of opponents, so I like Campbell to cruise to a cover here.
