Davidson vs Loyola-Chicago 1/4/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Loyola Ramblers and the Davidson Wildcats meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Belk Arena. Loyola is 6-7 on the year so far. The Ramblers lost to George Washington in their last game. Loyola came out of the gate on a 3-5 run, beating only UIC, Fairleigh Dickinson and Central Arkansas. The Ramblers are 3-2 since then with wins over Green Bay, Clemson and Albany before losses to Stanford and George Washington. 

In the George Washington game on Saturday, the Ramblers were down 40-37 at the break. Loyola was outscored 57-50 from there and lost 97-87. Philip Alston posted 21 points in the loss, and Marquise Kennedy led with 23 points. 

Over on the Davidson side, they were 6-2 after eight games, falling to Charleston and Charlotte. The Wildcats have gone 2-4 since then with losses to Delaware, Purdue, Northeastern and Dayton. 

Matched up against Dayton on Saturday, the Wildcats were down 44-33 going into the second half. Davidson couldn’t catch up and ended up losing 69-55. Desmond Watson was tops in scoring with 13 points and five rebounds. 

PICK: I’m going to lean toward Davidson here. Probably not going near it, though. The Wildcats didn’t play particularly well against a good Dayton team in their last outing. Davidson has scored just 112 combined points in their last pair, and they’ve hit 61 or fewer points in three of their last four games. The Wildcats are going to need to step on the offensive gas in order to cover in this one, but I think they can do it. As for Loyola, they’ve hit 68 or more points in six of their last seven games and will probably push the total pretty high in this one.
