San Diego State Aztecs

The Aztecs didn’t have too many issues over their first 16 games this year, losing to only BYU and Grand Canyon. San Diego State is 2-2 in their last four games, though. The wins in that time were over Nevada and Wyoming; the losses otherwise were to New Mexico and Boise State.

In the Wyoming game last Tuesday, the Aztecs went into the locker room with a 34-32 edge. San Diego State hit a 47-33 run the rest of the way and bagged a victory 81-65. Leading the team in scoring was Lamont Butler with his 23 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Colorado State Rams

Over on the Rams’ side, they began their year with a 13-1 run featuring a lone loss to Saint Mary’s. Colorado State is just 2-4 in their last six games, with wins over only Air Force and UNLV. The losses otherwise were versus Utah State, Boise State, Nevada and Wyoming.

Matched up against Wyoming on Saturday, Colorado State came back from a 31-28 deficit at halftime and forced an extra period. After overtime concluded the Rams had lost 79-76, though. Patrick Cartier was the team’s leading scorer on 19 points and four rebounds in the defeat.

I’ll stay with San Diego State. You could probably argue this one either way, though. The Aztecs played well against Wyoming despite getting out-rebounded 39-29 in their last outing. San Diego State shot a nice 49.2 percent from the field though, and had just two turnovers to the Cowboys’ 15 (leading to 19 Aztecs points). That makes 70 or more points in nine of the last 10 games for San Diego State.

As for Colorado State, they’ve been below 65 points in two of the last five games and have overtime finishes (for a 1-1 record) in two others. The Rams will be able to follow right along here if they’re playing well, so this one seems like something of a coin flip.
