The UNC Asheville Bulldogs and the UCF Knights meet Monday in college basketball action from CFE Arena. UNC Asheville UNC Asheville is fresh off a 17-15 overall record last year and a quarterfinals appearance in the CBI. As for UCF, they went 18-12 overall a season ago and finished near the middle of the AAC standings. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
UNC Asheville took a bit of a step forward last year, going 17-15 overall with an 8-8 record in the Big South Conference. That result would leave the Bulldogs in fourth place in the South Division of the conference standings.
The Bulldogs won their first two games in conference action last year, then hit a rough 2-6 stretch. UNC Asheville went 4-2 over the final six games, then fell to Charleston Southern in the conference tourney. The Bulldogs would ultimately lose to Northern Colorado in the CBI.
Over on the UCF side, they had a pretty average season in 2021-22, but it was an improvement over the season before. The Knights wound up at 18-12 overall and 9-9 in American Athletic Conference play. That would land UCF in sixth place in the standings.
UCF was sitting at 9-2 overall at one point, but the team failed to win more than two consecutive games in the 2022 calendar year. The Knights beat South Florida in the AAC Tournament before falling to Memphis to end the season.
UNC Asheville is 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four Monday games. UCF is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Monday games and 0-4 ATS in their last four overall.
PICK: I’m probably staying with UCF. There were some high hopes for the Knights after their hot start last year, but the team struggled with consistency. This season marks a clean slate with just four players from last year’s squad—namely senior CJ Walker, who saw major minutes in 2021-22. Walker should be the defensive anchor for this season’s team, and they’ve got a host of incoming transfers who could slot in a lot of different places. I like the team to start strong in this one.
