Cal Baptist vs Seattle 1/17/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Seattle Redhawks and the California Baptist Lancers meet Monday in college basketball action from CBU Events Center. Seattle is 12-4 this year and coming off a win over Dixie State. Seattle went 8-4 over their first dozen games this year. The losses were to Washington State, VMI, UNLV and Washington. Since then it’s been a four-game win streak versus Northwest WA, Chicago State, Utah Valley and Dixie State. 

In the Dixie State matchup, the Redhawks jumped out to a 44-26 lead at the break. Seattle was outscored 42-35 from there but still hung on for the 79-68 win. Tops in scoring was Cameron Tyson with 25 points and five rebounds in 26 minutes of work. 

Over on the Cal Baptist side, they went 10-3 over their first 13 matchups this season. The Lancers’ losses in that time were to Texas, UC Riverside and Arizona. After two more losses to Chicago State and Dixie State, the Lancers bounced back with a win over Utah Valley. 

Matched up against Utah Valley on Saturday, Cal Baptist utilized a 40-38 second half to power out a 75-73 victory. Leading the scoring was Tre Armstrong on 28 points and three steals. Ty Rowell added 16 points with three boards and three assists as well. 

Cal Baptist is 1-6 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win and 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. The under is 8-3 in the Redhawks’ last 11 overall.
Meanwhile, the Redhawks are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five overall. The under is 4-1-1 in Seattle’s last six road games. 

PICK: I’m going to stay with Seattle here. I could really go either way on this one, though; it should be a fun matchup and a coin-flip outcome. In any case, Seattle has been putting up some solid points totals over this four-game win streak: they’ve hit 71 or more in each outing. Generally the Redhawks have scored well against comparable competition this season, and if they get off to a strong start I think Seattle will be in good shape here as well. 

That said, Cal Baptist has hit 75 or more points in four of their last five games and should come out firing. I like this one to be a high-scoring competitive game with Seattle eking out a cover/win.
