Army vs American 1/11/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The American Eagles and the Army Black Knights meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Christl Arena. American enters this matchup at 12-3 overall. The Eagles beat Boston U in their last game. As for Army, they’re fresh off a Monday matchup versus Colgate. In that one the Knights lost a close outcome. American was 8-2 over their first 10 games this year. The Eagles lost to only Marist and George Mason in that stretch. The Eagles have since gone 4-1 with wins over Lafayette, Loyola MD, Holy Cross and Boston U. 

Matched up against the Terriers on Sunday, the Eagles got off to a 32-29 edge by the break. American scored another 44 points from there which was just enough for a 76-74 win. Colin Smalls led the scoring on 13 points. 

Over on the Army side, they took losses to Stonehill, William & Mary, Radford, Princeton and Manhattan in their first 10 games. The Knights hit a 4-2 run after that with wins over Central CT State, Lehigh, Lafayette and Loyola MD. 

On Monday versus Colgate, the Knights were all tied up at 42-42 by halftime. Army was outscored 35-33 from there in a tough 77-75 defeat. Jalen Rucker was the leading team scorer on 22 points with five assists. 

PICK: I’m probably going to stick with American. This should be a decent matchup, though. The Eagles barely got past a mediocre Boston U team in their last outing, however they’ve been doing quite well lately. American has hit 69 or more points in seven of their last nine outings and should be able to hang a decent total here as well. Army can score pretty well in the right matchups, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Knights holding a cover pace for much of the game.
