Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky posted a 15-7 run through their first 22 outings of the season. The Wildcats would go 5-2 over their next seven games, taking wins over Florida, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Florida again and Auburn. The losses came to Arkansas and Georgia otherwise.
In Wednesday’s matchup versus Vanderbilt, Kentucky fell behind 34-30 going into the second half. The Wildcats hit a 36-34 run from there but ended up losing 68-66. Oscar Tshiebwe went off for 21 points and 20 rebounds in the defeat.
Arkansas Razorbacks
Over on the Arkansas side, they were 15-7 after 22 games this year as well. The Razorbacks are 4-4 in their last eight outings with wins over South Carolina, Kentucky, Florida and Georgia alongside losses to Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Alabama and Tennessee.
On Tuesday versus Tennessee, Arkansas was down 34-25 at halftime. The Razorbacks had a 41-32 second-half deficit and lost 75-57. Both Davonte Davis (six rebounds) and Anthony Black (five rebounds) led the team on 13 points apiece.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’m going to take a stab on Arkansas here. The Razorbacks need to bounce back from a rough Tuesday loss against a great Tennessee team, though. Arkansas shot a tepid 36.7 percent in that one (to Tennessee’s 50 percent), got out-rebounded 35-32 and had 16 turnovers. Kentucky is going to be coming full speed for some revenge in this matchup, as Arkansas took a victory in their last meeting. That one was an 88-73 result back on February 7 at Rupp Arena and featured a 47-33 second-half advantage for the Razorbacks. That’s probably not going to happen again, so Arkansas will need to take advantage of every opportunity here. Kentucky will be refocused and determined after the upset loss Wednesday. Should be a fun one.
