The San Diego State Aztecs and the Utah State Aggies meet Friday in Mountain West Tournament college basketball action from Thomas & Mack Center. Let’s get into our San Diego State vs Utah State prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
San Diego State Aztecs
The Aztecs posted a 14-2 run through their first 16 games this year, but haven’t been able to win more than two consecutive outings since then. San Diego State finished off the regular season with a 2-2 run with wins over Fresno State and San Jose State before losses to UNLV and Boise State.
On Thursday in tournament activity versus UNLV, the Aztecs had a close call. San Diego State scored 22 points in the first half, 43 in the second and nine in overtime during a 74-71 victory. Jaedon LeDee was the team’s leading scorer on his 34 points and 16 rebounds alongside a pair of steals.

Utah State Aggies
Over on the Aggies’ side, they really only had one bad stretch all year. Utah State went 2-3 during a five-game run in February but since then it’s been six straight wins. Those victories came versus San Diego State, Fresno State, Air Force, San Jose State, New Mexico and Fresno State again.
In the tournament rematch versus Fresno State on Thursday, the Aggies had a bit of a scare. Utah State was able to force overtime after a 36-35 first-half deficit and eventually took the win 87-75. Tops in scoring was Great Osobor with 29 points and 17 rebounds for a double-double.
ANDREW’S FREE SAN DIEGO STATE VS UTAH STATE PREDICTION
I might take a stab on San Diego State. The Aztecs cut it pretty close against a tricky UNLV team on Thursday but everything worked out well. San Diego State shot just 36.6 percent form the field and 61.5 percent from the line though, which nearly offset the 50-31 rebounding edge.
As for Utah State, they certainly had some hiccups and difficulties putting away a pesky Fresno State team on Thursday. The Aggies shot just 7-of-25 (28 percent) from 3-point range and 26-of-36 (72.2 percent) from the line but everything worked out in the end.
The last time these teams saw each other was on February 20 in a 68-63 home win for the Aggies. San Diego State was pretty miserable from outside in that one (3-of-19), so they’re going to have to get the shooting woes under control in this rematch. I’m leaning toward the Aztecs keeping relative cover pace here, but I’m probably not touching this one.
