Maryland Terrapins
Maryland managed to go a sketchy 11-8 over their first 19 games this year. After beating Iowa and Nebraska in consecutive outings, the Terrapins have since gone 1-5. The losses in that time came versus Michigan State, Rutgers, Ohio State, Illinois and Wisconsin (with a win over Iowa).
In the Wisconsin game on Tuesday, the Terrapins took a 37-29 deficit into the second half. Maryland hit a 41-37 run the rest of the way but couldn’t come back in a 74-70 loss. Leading the team was Jahmir Young with his 20 points, two rebounds and three assists.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Over on the Rutgers side, they posted a .500 run over their first 20 outings at 10-10 overall. The Knights would then hit a four-game win streak over Michigan, Maryland, Wisconsin and Northwestern. The last two games have both been losses though, to Minnesota and Purdue.
In the Purdue matchup on Thursday, the Knights were drilled 52-33 in the first half alone. Rutgers didn’t get any closer than that, limping to a 96-68 blowout loss with a 44-35 second half. Jeremiah Williams was the team’s top scorer with his 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.
ANDREW’S FREE MARYLAND VS RUTGERS PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Rutgers. This should be a pretty good matchup if both teams play well, though. Rutgers didn’t stand much of a chance on the road against a great Purdue team in their last outing and got out-rebounded 35-22 while giving up 58.9 percent shooting to the Boilermakers. If there’s good news it’s that the Knights are scoring reasonably well lately with 68 or more points in three of the last four.
These teams last saw each other in a 56-53 road win for Rutgers back on February 6. Neither team shot very well in that one (both under 40 percent) and each team coughed up 15 turnovers in a sloppy outing. Rutgers should benefit from the home rematch but Maryland will make this one interesting if the Terrapins play well.
