The Milwaukee Panthers and the Charlotte 49ers meet Monday in CBI Tournament college basketball action from Ocean Center. Milwaukee is 22-11 so far this year. The Panthers beat Stetson in tournament activity on Sunday. As for Charlotte, they’re 19-14 overall following a Saturday CBI win over Western Carolina. Milwaukee Panthers
Milwaukee’s regular season was a 20-10 run. The Panthers ended with wins over Fort Wayne and Cleveland State, then took out Wright State in the Horizon League Tournament. Milwaukee fell in their second conference tourney outing 93-80 to Cleveland State.
On Sunday in the tournament matchup versus Stetson, the Panthers scored 35 points in the first half, 41 in the second and 11 in overtime to power out an upset win 87-83. BJ Freeman led the team in scoring, posting 43 points and seven rebounds.
Charlotte 49ers
Over on the Charlotte side, they managed an 18-13 record in the regular season, finishing things off with losses to UTSA and UAB. The 49ers didn’t have any luck in the Conference USA Tournament, falling to Middle Tennessee 66-65 on March 9.
In their CBI game versus Western Carolina on Saturday, the 49ers were outscored 31-20 in the first half. Charlotte found their groove on a 45-25 second half however and won 65-56. Brice Williams led the way on 20 points and 10 rebounds.

I’ll probably stay with Milwaukee. Also probably not touching it. The Panthers are coming off a nice overtime win over a pretty good Stetson team on Sunday, but it took a gargantuan effort from Freeman to overcome the rough bench shooting. Milwaukee was out-rebounded 57-42 (21-12 offensive) as well, so there’s a lot to clean up here. As for Charlotte, they started out very slowly in the Western Carolina game but to their credit the 49ers picked it up in the second half. Charlotte shot a sketchy 38.5 percent from the field in that one so they’ll need to be sharper in this one. I don’t think the 49ers will quite get there cover-wise, but Milwaukee is no sure thing either.
