The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Ole Miss Rebels meet Saturday in college basketball action from the Pavilion. South Carolina is 8-16 so far this season. The Gamecocks lost to Missouri in their last game. As for Ole Miss, they’re 10-14 on the year following a win over Georgia on Tuesday. South Carolina Gamecocks

South Carolina had mixed results over their first 16 games, going 8-8 for a .500 start overall. Since then the Gamecocks have lost to Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, Arkansas and Missouri.

In the Missouri game on Tuesday, the Gamecocks took a 42-37 deficit into the break. South Carolina didn’t get any closer on a 41-37 second-half run and lost 83-74. GG Jackson led the team in scoring with 23 points in 27 minutes of work.

Ole Miss Rebels

Over on the Ole Miss side, they started out the year at .500 as well, going 8-8 over their first 16 games. The Rebels are 2-6 in the eight since, falling to Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

Ole Miss got back into the win column on Tuesday versus Georgia. After a 35-34 edge in the first half, the Rebels posted a 43-40 advantage from there and won 78-74. Jaemyn Brakefield was the top scorer on the team with 24 points and seven boards.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m going to stick with Ole Miss. The Rebels are coming off a much-needed win over Georgia on Tuesday, which broke a five-game losing streak for them. Ole Miss had been at 66 or fewer points in three of those five games and the team was struggling. There’s hope here, though; the last time these teams met up on January 17 at Colonial Life Arena, Ole Miss powered out a 70-58 win with 40 second-half points. South Carolina has been flailing on this eight-game losing streak and I don’t think they’ll be able to keep up with Ole Miss at home in the rematch.
