UNC Wilmington vs Monmouth Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 1/26/23

The Monmouth Hawks and the UNC Wilmington Seahawks meet Thursday in college basketball action from Trask Coliseum. Monmouth is just 1-19 this year. The Hawks lost to Hampton in their last game. Monmouth Hawks

The Hawks have had very little luck this season; it’s been a tough ride. Monmouth’s lone victory came 76-69 over Manhattan on December 4. Since then it’s been a string of 11 straight losses, most recently versus Hampton on Saturday. 

In the matchup versus the Pirates last weekend, the Hawks were down 41-30 going into halftime. Monmouth was outscored 42-36 in the second and lost 83-66. Myles Foster put up 22 points with eight rebounds to lead the team. 

UNC Wilmington Seahawks

Over on the UNC Wilmington side, they started at 13-3 this year with losses to only North Carolina, Oklahoma and UConn. The Seahawks are 3-3 since then with losses to Charleston, William & Mary and Hofstra. 

Back on Saturday versus Stony Brook, UNC Wilmington took a 22-21 edge into the break. The Seahawks posted a 40-30 advantage in the second half and won it 62-51. Maleeck Harden-Hayes led the way on 31 points and seven boards. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’m going to stick with UNC Wilmington. The Seahawks struggled a little bit versus Stony Brook in the first half of their last outing, and they haven’t bee terribly sharp over this 3-3 stretch. UNC Wilmington has scored 62 points or fewer in three straight games, so they’ll want to get off to a good start against an overmatched Monmouth team here. UNC Wilmington won 68-55 the last time these teams met up back on December 28, and I don’t think this one will be that much different.
