AR-Pine Bluff vs Texas Southern 1/7/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Texas Southern Tigers and the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions meet Saturday in college basketball action from H.O. Clemmons Arena. Texas Southern is 4-11 so far this year. The Tigers lost to Grambling State in their last game. As for AR-Pine Bluff, they’re 4-11 overall as well and coming off a loss to Alabama State. Texas Southern was 2-8 after 10 games this year, beating only Arizona State and North American. The Tigers have gone 2-3 over their last five outings with losses to Wichita State, Southern U and Grambling State. 

In the Grambling State game, the Tigers were down 41-34 going into the second half. Texas Southern was outscored 44-38 from there and lost 85-72. Zytarious Mortle led the team on 20 points with four rebounds. 

Over on the AR-Pine Bluff side, they went 3-7 over their first 10 with wins over Champion Christian, Crowley’s Ridge and AR Baptist. The Lions have won just one game versus Ecclesia in the five outings since then. 

Matched up against Alabama State on Wednesday, the Lions trailed by one point going into the break. AR-Pine Bluff was outscored 43-30 from there and lost 80-66. Kyle Milton led the way on 19 points with six rebounds. 

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Texas Southern. There’s not a ton of intrigue involved in this one, considering the teams have combined for just eight wins so far. That said, it should be a pretty competitive game. The Tigers have scored pretty well over the last five games, with 72 or more points in three of those. AR-Pine Bluff has been below 60 points in five of their last seven games, so they’ll need to step it up in order to keep pace. Ultimately I think Texas Southern takes the cover here.
