Santa Clara vs Sacramento State 12/3/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Sacramento State Hornets and the Santa Clara Broncos meet Saturday in college basketball action from Leavey Center. Sacramento State is 3-4 overall this year and coming off a loss to Southern Utah. As for Santa Clara, they’re sitting at 6-2 on the season. The Broncos took out Wyoming in their last game. Sacramento State won three of their first four games over UC San Diego, Denver and UC Merced. Since then it’s been three straight losses for the Hornets versus UC Davis, Hawaii and Southern Utah, however. 

In the Southern Utah matchup back on Saturday, the Hornets came back from a 34-29 halftime deficit to force overtime. After two extra periods Sacramento State lost 91-87. Zach Chappell posted 23 points with four rebounds in the defeat. 

Over on the Santa Clara side, they took a loss to Utah State in game three but otherwise beat Eastern Washington, Georgia Southern and DePaul in their first quartet. The Broncos went 2-1 over the next three with wins over Menlo and Iona. 

On Wednesday versus Wyoming, Santa Clara added another win to their total. The Broncos needed a 41-33 second-half comeback and 12 points in overtime to get there, but they ended up taking an 89-85 victory for their sixth win of the year. 

PICK: I’m sticking with Santa Clara. The Broncos are fresh off a gutsy win over an okay Wyoming team. There have been some scoring lulls here and there for Santa Clara, but overall they’re putting up the points at a pretty solid clip. Santa Clara has hit 69 or more points in six of their eight games so far and should keep that run going against Sacramento State. 

Speaking of the Hornets, they’ve got a couple of solid performances in the books this year but they’ve been all over the place results-wise. I don’t think they’ll stick around versus Santa Clara.
