The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers meet Saturday in week 7 college football action from Floyd Stadium. Western Kentucky just finished up a game versus UTSA. In that matchup the Hilltoppers fell by three points. As for Middle Tennessee, they played UAB back on Saturday. The Raiders would go on to lose in blowout fashion. Western Kentucky’s 2022 campaign began with a 38-27 win over Austin Peay and a 49-17 blowout win over Hawaii. The Hilltoppers would fall in overtime to Indiana 33-30, but then bounced back with a 73-0 blowout win over FIU before falling to Troy 34-27.

Matched up against UTSA, the Hilltoppers gave up points in every quarter during a close 31-28 defeat. Quarterback Austin Reed finished with 373 yards and two scores, while Kyle Robichaux led the rush on 65 yards and a TD. Malachi Corley added 131 yards off 11 catches.

Over on the Middle Tennessee side, they lost to James Madison 44-7 in the opener but then bounced back with a 34-19 win over Colorado State. The Raiders would then take out Tennessee State 49-6 and Miami-FL 45-31 before a 45-30 loss to UTSA.

Back on Saturday versus UAB, Middle Tennessee was down 38-7 by halftime and limped to a 41-14 defeat. QB Chase Cunningham managed 196 yards with one TD and one interception, and Joe Ervin led the rushers with 54 yards off seven carries.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers did a decent job overall on offense during their loss to UTSA over the weekend, notching 481 total yards, 6.6 yards per play and 26 first downs. Western Kentucky gave up 486 yards and 30 first downs on the other side, though.

As for Middle Tennessee, they were out-gained 581-336 in their loss over the weekend. The Raiders gave up a whopping 303 rush yards and 8.9 yards per play. There’s plenty to clean up this week, and I don’t think the Raiders will be able to power out a cover.
