Binghamton went 5-7 over their first 12 games this year (with a couple of postponement breaks mixed in). In the last six it’s been a 3-3 run with wins over Maine, NJIT and Hartford alongside losses to Stony Brook, Hartford and UMBC.
In the UMBC game on Saturday, the Bearcats had a 39-38 lead by halftime. Binghamton was outscored 32-29 from there in a 70-68 defeat. Jacob Falko put up 16 points with eight rebounds, and Tyler Bertram added 15 points.
Over on the Stony Brook side, they hit a 9-6 run to open the season, but were only able to play two games from December 29 to January 17. The Seawolves have since gone 4-1 with victories versus UMBC, Binghamton, Albany and New Hampshire.
Matched up against New Hampshire on Friday, the Seawolves scored 40 points in the first half and were able to hang on for the 76-69 win. Jahlil Jenkins was tops on 23 points and six assists. Tyler Stephenson added 16 points with four boards.
The Seawolves are 8-17 ATS in their last 25 at home and 0-4 ATS in their last four Wednesday games. The over is 4-0 in Stony Brook’s last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Bearcats are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. the under is 4-1 in Binghamton’s last five after a straight-up loss.
PICK: I’m probably sticking with Stony Brook here, but I could go either way. The last time these teams saw each other back on January 19, the Seawolves managed a 74-71 win. Stony Brook shot a cold 34.4 percent from the field in that one, but stayed in it by winning the rebounding battle 43-42 and coughing up only nine turnovers. This rematch should be a tight affair as well, but Stony Brook should have the upper hand if they play to their capabilities.
