The Seattle Mariners and the Kansas City Royals meet in MLB action from Kauffman Stadium on Friday night.

The Seattle Mariners will try to rebound from a 9-4 loss at the hands of the Boston Red Sox in their last game. Kyle Seager posted a double with two RBIs while J.P. Crawford added an rBI as well in the losing effort. Jarred Kelenic went 2 for 4 while Tom Murphy, Luis Torrens and Ty France each had base hits as well in the losing effort. Marco Gonzales gave up three runs on three hits while striking out seven over six innings of work. Erik Swanson ended up with the loss in relief to fall to 0-3 on the year as a result. Chris Flexen will start here and is 11-6 with a 3.73 ERA and 107 strikeouts this season.

The Kansas City Royals will look to rebound from their 7-2 loss at the hands of the Oakland A’s on Thursday. Sal Perez had a two-run home run to make up the scoring for the Royals in defeat while Hanser Alberto and Hunter Dozier each had a double. Sebastian Rivero and Adalberto Mondesi each had base hits as well while Ryan O’Hearn had a base hit as well to finish off KC’s offense as a team in the losing effort. Daniel Lynch took the loss, falling to 4-5 on the year after allowing one run in two innings of work in the start. Brady Singer will start here and is 4-10 with a 4.85 ERA and 124 strikeouts this season.

Seattle is 5-0 in their last 5 games as a road favorite and 7-2 in their last 9 road games while the over is 12-0 in their last 12 games overall. Kansas City is 4-0 in their last 4 Friday games and 5-2 in their last 7 games as an underdog while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 Friday games.

I get the case that can be made both ways here, but I’m leaning towards Seattle in this spot. The Mariners are the only team of the two here that are playing for anything meaningful here, and while Brady Singer has a nice future ahead of him, the bottom line is that right now, he’s 4-10 with an ERA under five, going against Seattle with arguably their best pitcher with Seattle in the wild card race. Not a good spot to be in. I’ll side with Seattle on the road in this spot.
